Report on Stock Guru by Pranay Saraf

Keeping in mind the primary objective of the all-round development of the commerce students of Hansraj college, the commerce society took another initiative to train and mould some of the future Warren Buffetts. "Stock guru", a highly awaited event which witnessed the participation of around 40 teams, was a resounding success.  "Anxiousness, excitement, Jealousy, Hunger to win, thrill and agitation" are words which hardly do justice to describe the real atmosphere of the competition.

Beginning with a simplified model of the stock market, the first phase of the competition was an attempt to filter the brightest from the bright. Basically, it was a competition which asked the participants to make the best possible use of their analytical skills. The goal was simple-profit maximization, the means weren't! Each round had a set of news headlines, on the basis of which participants made their decisions and the predetermined price model was the key mechanism. Even if it was relatively easy to pick if the market was bullish or bearish, it was a really tough task to pick the company with the maximum return. Each and every team were seen debating among themselves; putting all of their logic to best possible use.

Only twelve teams advanced to the final leg of the competition. The organizers took the competition to a whole new level by introducing the short selling concept and determining the price using the demand and supply concept. Participants were literally seen biting their nails off as adrenaline gushed through their veins. "Kingfisher, Airtel, Infosys, ITC, HUL, Maruti Suzuki, or some other company", the participants were caught in a complex dilemma. It was a fiercely fought competition but, at the end of the day, only 1 team could walk out with broad smiles on their face. What made the event an overwhelming success was the meticulous planning by the organizing body and the highly enthusiastic participation. It definitely wouldn't be over-optimistic to say that hansarians would win several accolades in the various fests and competitions to come, as far as mock stock is concerned.

The team which walked out with their fists punching the air, huge hugs and broad smiles on their face comprised of :-
1. Karan Setia
2. Pranay Saraf

The team which ended just a mile behind comprised of:-
1. Binny Pal Singh Bakshi
2. Mahvish hamid.
